Our Story

A kitchen worth the drive.

Veteran-owned. Family-run. Powered by Breckinridge County. Built around scratch cooking and the kind of welcome you remember.

Where it began

Rooted in Breckinridge County.

The Lakehouse Kitchen started the way most good ideas start in a small town — over coffee, with friends, and a lot of stubbornness. After Beau's years in the Coast Guard, Kathy's years running a business, and a lifetime of family Sunday suppers, we kept coming back to the same question: Why isn't there a place in Westview where you can grab a real sandwich, a fresh-baked pie, and a hot meal for the family — all under one roof?

So we built it.

The Lakehouse is named for the place we love most — the quiet edges of Rough River, where families gather, neighbors trade fish stories, and the day doesn't move any faster than you want it to. We wanted our kitchen to feel the same way.

★ Veteran-Owned

Service didn't end when we came home.

We're proud to be a veteran-owned small business. The same values Beau carried in uniform — discipline, hospitality, looking out for the person next to you — show up in every loaf of bread we bake and every order we hand across the counter.

Meet the owners

Beau & Kathy Hicks.

Hi, I'm Kathy, the heart behind The Lakehouse Kitchen. For me, food has always been about more than a meal — it's how we care for people, bring families together, and make ordinary days feel special.

After a career as a business owner and earning my PhD in Building Science, I found my way back to the work I have always loved: cooking, baking, creating recipes, and serving my community.

I'm also proud to be the author of Just Add Water, available through Amazon and Barnes & Noble, as well as for Kindle. I wrote the book to share my knowledge of creating shelf-stable foods through careful process control rather than relying on artificial additives or chemical preservatives. The foods featured in the book are all shelf-stable and created with the same care I would use for food served at my own table.

At The Lakehouse Kitchen, everything is guided by a simple belief: food should taste homemade because it truly is — and you should be able to pronounce every ingredient that goes into your body. From fresh-baked breads and comforting ready meals to deli favorites and sweet treats, we make the kind of food I'm proud to serve at my own table.

The Lakehouse Kitchen is more than a business to me. It's a place where customers become friends, employees become family, and everyone is welcomed with genuine care. I'm so glad you found us — and I hope you feel at home here.

About Beau

Beau is a proud U.S. Coast Guard veteran who spent his years of service looking out for others, and that instinct never went away. Today he and Kathy own and operate The Lakehouse Kitchen together. Serving the people of Kentucky is the mission he's happiest to have signed up for.

Community

Local when we can. Always.

We source from Breckinridge County farms whenever the season allows — eggs, produce, honey, and dairy. We support local schools, churches, and ball teams, and we're proud to host pickup days, fundraisers, and the occasional Friday-night gathering on the porch.
