Red Wine Sangria

Red Wine Sangria

It’s round 2 of Thirsty Thursdayyy, who’s excited🍹🍹?

In honour of National Wine Day tomorrow, we’re making Sangria!! I feel like when it comes to Sangria, people either love it (🙋🏻), or hate it! But I also feel, that if you hate it, you just had bad Sangria lol.

There are many variations of Sangria recipes, Red, White, Rosé… Today we’re going with Red, I did a little Facebook poll with the Roasted Vegetable & Goat Cheese Frittata post on Tuesday and Red it was!  For this recipe, I was inspired by the delicious Sangria from Tide & Boar Gastro Pub. Is there anything better than sitting on the patio on a hot summer day, with a pitcher of delicious Sangria😎?? So from what i saw on the cocktail menu description, it was a combination of: Red Wine, Peach Schnapps, Triple Sec and fresh fruit. So that’s what I went with, but I added a few other things.

To the mixture of red wine, liquors and fresh fruit, I added a mixture of pineapple juice and pomegranate/cherry juice. All of these flavours really blend nicely together. For the fruit, I went with sliced oranges, limes, green apples and plums, but you can use wtv fruit you like really!  Sangria is also one of those things that needs rest to develop the flavors properly. At least 12 hours, but I usually make it the night before I want to serve so I aim for 24 hours!! The fruit really get macerated and makes a delicious little treat when your done your cocktail!

A lot of Sangria’s I’ve tasted were really strong tasting and some of them had brandy which I didn’t care for. But this one is fruity, a little sweet but not too much, really makes a refreshing drink for those hot summer days!! Another thing with Sangria, people think that you can use the cheapest wine possible and it will still be delicious… Well, here’s what I think. Definitely don’t splurge on a nice bottle of wine to make Sangria but go with something that you would enjoy drinking on its own. If you make it with wine that taste like vinegar, chances are your Sangria will taste like vinegar and fruit juice, you feel me?
Red Wine SangriaSo, all of your Sangria lovers out there, I’m pretty sure you will love this recipe! For all of your Sangria haters, I hope this is the Sangria that will change your mind😏😏!!

*I do 1 cup pineapple juice + 1 cup pomegranate/cherry juice. I would suggest starting off with this and tasting it once it has rested!! If you find it to be a bit strong, you can add additional juice.
